Measure

Gaming duty

The measure

The Gross Gaming Yield bandings for gaming duty will be frozen from 1 April 2025 until 31 March 2026.

The government has also confirmed that, as announced in the Autumn Statement 2023, there will be a consultation next year on proposals to bring remote gambling (meaning gambling offered over the internet, telephone, TV and radio) into a single tax, rather than taxing it through a three-tax structure.

Who will be affected?

Land-based operators, casinos, and the remote gambling industry (i.e., remote operators of both betting and gaming).

When will the measure come into effect?

The Gross Gaming Yield bandings freeze will apply until 31 March 2026.

The consultation will be undertaken in 2025.

Our view

The freeze in the bandings provides certainty for gaming operators.

It will be interesting to see what the government proposes in the consultation relating to remote gambling.
