Spending Review will allow the UK’s technology sector to stand a little taller on the world stage

27 October 2021

Paul Lee, global head of technology, media and telecommunications research at Deloitte, comments on the Chancellor’s Spending Review statement:

“The Spending Review was overall positive for the UK’s technology sector, with several important building blocks for the industry announced.

“For the technology sector to thrive, it needs to attract people who’ve already scaled businesses. The Global Talent Network should help attract entrepreneurs with that experience into the UK.

“The Scale-Up Visa will enable skilled and experienced technology workers to come and work in the UK, bolstering British businesses across a number of industries currently constrained by digital skills shortages.

“The confirmed £1.6 billion for the British Business Bank’s regional funds will additionally benefit smaller companies, among which will likely be digital unicorns and decacorns of the future.

“As the Chancellor sets out his vision of Britain competing as a science and technology superpower, this investment is a promising step that will allow the UK’s technology sector to stand a little taller on the world stage.”
