Dan Adams, head of telecommunications at Deloitte, comments on the Budget:
“The majority of people use their mobile as their primary connection to the internet, and 4G can provide the fastest, most secure method. 5G has been dominating the headlines, but we are still not half-way through the roll-out of the 4G network and we’re likely to still be using this network well into the 2030s.
“Improving 4G coverage across the UK will make it easier to work from remote locations and provide a productivity boost to businesses across the country. However, the real benefits of the 4G roll-out will be felt by local communities, rather than businesses, particularly those living in sparsely-populated areas which pose unique geographical and landscape challenges.
“The commercial justification for rolling out coverage may appear slight at first, but the populations of rural towns and villages will receive huge improvements in connectivity as a result of today’s announcement.”
