The government will introduce a new reformed HGV levy from August 2023 following the planned end of the current levy suspension period.
Any business or person operating HGVs over 12 tonnes which are declared eligible for UK road use.
The new levy will be introduced from August 2023.
The government cites that the reforms reflect the environmental performance of HGVs and its commitment in ensuring that the levy applies to all HGVs using the UK road network.
The new levy is being introduced following a suspension of the previous HGV levy and consultation with UK stakeholders.
Although an increase in cost for many HGV owners and operators, the new levy reduces the number of rates will reduce from 22 to 66 with 2 rates within each of the 3 separate weight categories.
