Deloitte chief economist comments on the Spring Statement

23 March 2022

Ian Stewart, chief economist at Deloitte, comments on the Chancellor’s Spring Statement:

“A strong snap back in the jobs market and government revenues has provided a timely windfall, enabling the Chancellor to deliver lower taxes and significantly reduce public borrowing.

“But cuts to National Insurance and fuel duty don’t alter the fact that, on the official forecasts, the UK is heading for the biggest squeeze on real household disposable income in 65 years.”
